Life Care Planning

Also known as a future care cost projection or assessment of future care needs, a Life Care Plan is now recognized to be of critical importance to establish the value of special damages arising from the need for future medical and non-medical care due to injuries sustained in the event that is the subject of the litigation. Simply stated, a case will require a Life Care Plan if there is any suggestion of the need for future medical or non-medical care.

A Life Care Plan is a dynamic document based upon published standards of practice, comprehensive assessment, and data analysis and research which provides an organized, concise plan for current and future needs, with associated cost, for individuals who have experienced catastrophic injury or have chronic care needs (2000 Life Care Planning Summit, Dallas, TX; International Academy of Life Care Planners, Standards of Practice, 2015). These needs can be as simple as prescription medication or as complex as the need for prosthetics, wheelchair equipment and supplies, personal care/nursing assistance, surgery, and other future care needs of a medical and non-medical nature.

Our Unique Approach Strengthens Your Case

VDI uses both the rehabilitation and nursing models for Life Care Plan development. Using a unique team approach where both a rehabilitation counselor and registered nurse are involved in Life Care Plan development, the most comprehensive assessment will occur consistent with published life care planning standards of practice and protocols. Life care planning methodology, process, and standards of practice and protocols used by our team are consistent with those utilized by Certified Life Care Planners and Certified Nurse Life Care Planners as identified by the International Commission on Health Care Certification (ICHCC), the International Academy of Life Care Planners (IALCP), the American Association of Nurse Life Care Planners (AANLCP), and the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (IARP).
