Henry Araniva v. Patterson-UTI Drilling Company, LLC, et al.

May 5, 2025

Vocational Diagnostics, Inc. Director and CEO, Aubrey Corwin, M.S., L.P.C., C.R.C., C.L.C.P., was retained by Defense counsel to provide an Earning Capacity Evaluation and an Assessment of Future Care Needs in a case involving a plaintiff who lost a finger in an industrial drilling accident.

VDI’s analysis highlighted flaws in the Plaintiff’s expert report, lack of methodological soundness, and that Plaintiff’s expert opinions were found to be inconsistent with those of the Plaintiff’s treating providers.

The matter proceeded through extended mediation and contentious negotiations. The case settled the week before Ms. Corwin was scheduled to testify at trial. Our retaining attorney provided a thoughtful and detailed summary of the settlement negotiations, with comments regarding our work: “Generally speaking, I would say that Aubrey’s report would have come across as the voice of reason, which I was hoping would be the case when I reached out to retain her. That said, we had a solid grasp of the range of potential damages, but that topic was not discussed at length between the parties at mediation or in the subsequent weeks. Again, thank you and phenomenal work from all the folks at VDI.”
