Laura Lykins

Vocational Consultant and Life Care Planning Specialist

Laura is a Vocational Consultant and Life Care Planning Specialist. She is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) and a Certified Life Care Planner (CLCP). She has worked in the forensic rehabilitation field since 2010 performing vocational evaluations on both plaintiff and defendants in worker’s compensation, personal injury, employment law, wrongful death, family law, and child cases. Her experience includes reviewing medical records, performing research, administering vocational tests and assessments, conducting labor market surveys, and loss of earning capacity. She has worked as a vocational expert for the Social Security Administration Office of Hearing and Appeals providing expert testimony since 2011.

Laura received her life care planning training through the University of Florida Distance Learning Program and International Academy of Life Care Planners in 2013. Her professional background as a life care planner includes performing Life Care Plans and critiques, cost analysis, working with treating physicians and specialists, and research of future care needs/services. She has prepared Life Care Plans for both catastrophic and non-catastrophic cases of children and adults with injuries that include chronic brain injury, spinal cord injury, orthopedic injuries, birth injuries, chronic pain, HIV/AIDS diagnosis, secondhand smoke exposure, burn injuries, and amputations. She has provided expert witness testimony for both plaintiff and defense cases and testified in federal court.

Laura belongs to the International Association of Rehabilitations Professionals (IARP) and maintains her credentials through annual conferences, webinars, and continuing education. In the past she has also provided guest lectures at the University of Kentucky Rehabilitation and Special Education Program.

She received her bachelor’s degree in Communications at the University of Kentucky in 2008 and her master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling (MRC) in 2010. Her husband works as a retail pharmacist in Central Kentucky and she spends her free time raising her two children. She enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and reading.
