John Maier, M.A., C.R.C., C.C.M.
John Maier is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), Certified Case Manager (CCM) and has a post-graduate certification in Assistive Technology.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from University of Connecticut and was a National Merit Scholar. John then worked with adjudicated youth at a wilderness camp in Arizona leading hiking trips, facilitating group and individual growth, and the training of wild mustang horses as a form of rehabilitative therapy.
John earned his Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling with an emphasis in psychiatric rehabilitation at the University of Arizona in 2007. During this time he was a member of the Chi Sigma Iota Honor Society.
Prior to joining VDI, John worked for the state Vocational Rehabilitation programs in both Arizona and North Carolina. He worked with high school transition students, University of Arizona students, people with psychological diagnoses in a partnership with La Frontera Behavioral Health, as well as individuals with SCI, TBI, orthopedic, chronic pain, and other physical disabilities. Additionally, John has experience developing both group and individual community work sites for people with disabilities and coordinating accommodations, job coaching, and training for their successful job placement. He has also written over 300 employment plans to assist individuals with disabilities obtain schooling, training, and employment in a wide variety of jobs and work settings.
John lives in Raleigh, North Carolina. His wife is an accomplished artist and art educator. John, his wife and daughters enjoy gardening, hiking, biking, camping, and backpacking.
